As an online student at Johnson & Wales University, you have a dedicated team of people behind you ready to help. Nevertheless, we know you can’t just walk into our office and ask us a question, so we’re pleased to introduce you to your newest support resource, OSCAR!
Who is OSCAR? Well, the question isn’t so much about a “who” but rather a “what.”
OSCAR, which stands for Online Student Course & Academic Resources, is a collection of online modules designed to show students what they need to know to be a successful JWU Online student. OSCAR houses how-to guides, videos, and information on financial aid, registration, textbooks, and more.
How do I access OSCAR?
OSCAR is located right within the JWU online-learning platform—we call it “ulearn”—and appears among a student’s other courses. In fact, OSCAR is modeled after an actual JWU Online course to make it easy to navigate. This design also gives new students a taste of what to expect once the term begins and real classes open.
Who can use OSCAR?
Our staff designed OSCAR as a place for everyone, especially newer students who are still being acclimated to the online learning environment. It can also be valuable for current students who are in search of online tutorials and how-to guides.
What can I do in OSCAR?
In addition to offering important resources for new students, OSCAR houses an interactive practice module that allows students to:
· write a discussion board,
· take a quiz,
· and submit a paper before real classes begin.
In addition, it’s a great place to connect with fellow students! Since its inception in July, more than 70 students have engaged in conversation in the practice discussion board. If you are a returning student, feel free to log in and post your tips and tricks for new students. It’s always helpful to get another student’s perspective!
So, the next time you have a question, need a refresher on a process, or want to practice taking a quiz, remember to use OSCAR. Happy learning!
