Just about a year ago now, I was presented with an opportunity I ultimately could not pass up: a chance to re-enter the workforce and join the awesome staff at JWU’s College of Online Education. As the mother of four small children (I guess I can’t say “small” anymore as the oldest is now 14), including one who is profoundly disabled, I was on the fence about returning to the workforce.
As a full-time employee of Marriott Hotels, Christal Byars, MBA ‘17 did not believe that she would have time to pursue a graduate degree, though she knew she needed it to set herself apart in the industry. The flexibility offered by the Johnson & Wales College of Online Education’s MBA program gave her the ability to take all of her courses on her time while continuing to work 50 plus hours a week.
As someone whose first professional writing assignment was about peanut butter, Annie Shalvey was never really sure where her writing passions would take her. Turns out, her love for words and stories would land her here, at the Johnson & Wales University College of Online Education. As JWU’s online communications coordinator, Annie is able to explore her writing passion through a new lens. Her favorite part of her job, she says, is getting to share online student stories with the rest of the university and beyond.

More than likely, you have heard of Johnson & Wales University (JWU) and know of its reputation of more than a century of career-focused education.
Would you buy a house without ever stepping foot inside of it? Or purchase a car without taking it for a test drive?
More than likely, you answered “no.” And that’s because each of these decisions involves a high level of commitment and consideration.
Choosing to attend college involves a similar thought process. Touring a campus gives prospective students an idea of what it really means to attend school there, and it’s not uncommon for many to say that a certain university just “felt” right.
