Badges & Micro-Credentials
In order to enroll for a badge(s) and/or micro-credential(s), you must fill out the Badges & Micro-Credentials Enrollment form and complete payment. Upon submission of the form, you will receive an email confirming your enrollment. Instructions on how to receive your username and password to access the badges and micro-credential will be emailed to you within 24 business hours.

What is a badge and a micro-credential?
A digital badge is a verified virtual emblem that displays the mastery of a skill or competency. In JWU's Professional Pathways, each badge represents the successful completion of a targeted learning experience focused on workforce-relevant skills. Our badges are issued through Credly and can be shared on LinkedIn, résumés and professional profiles to showcase accomplishments to employers and colleagues. Multiple badges are also combined to form our larger micro-credentials and may serve as a pathway toward future educational opportunities.
A micro-credential is a short-term, workforce-focused credential that validates a collection of related skills and competencies. Rather than taking years like a traditional degree, it takes weeks or months. In JWU's Professional Pathways, a micro-credential is earned by completing a series of digital badges that together demonstrate proficiency in a broader professional skill area. Micro-credentials are designed to help learners build job-relevant expertise, showcase their achievements to employers and create a pathway to future educational opportunities.
How much does my badge/micro-credential cost?
Each badge costs $500, and the learner will receive a digital badge from Johnson & Wales University, issued by Credly, upon completion.
Each micro-credential consists of five (5) distinct badges that all must be completed to earn the micro-credential. The full cost of a micro-credential is $2500.
Learners can choose to complete any number of individual badges offered by Professional Pathways or all five distinct badges to complete the full micro-credential.
Can I apply for financial aid?
At this time, financial aid is not available for badges and micro-credentials.
How do I access my badge/micro-credential?
Once you have received your login information, please use the following instructions to log in and create a new personal password:
- Visit training.jwu.edu to go to the login page.
- Click the “Forgot Password?” link located at the bottom of the page.
- Provide your information for one of the following options: Username or Email Address.
- Open the reset email and click the reset link.
- Enter and confirm your new password, then sign in.
What is expected of me in the badge/micro-credential?
Each badge has seven (7) modules that must be completed sequentially to fulfill the requirements. Each badge has activities, assignments and assessments required throughout the course that must be fully completed. Upon successful completion of all seven modules, you will attain a badge through JWU and Credly.
Each micro-credential consists of five (5) distinct badges that all must be attained to fulfill the requirements. Learners can choose to complete any number of badges offered by Professional Pathways. However, in order to attain the full micro-credential, all five distinct badges within the micro-credential must be completed.
How much time should I dedicate to my studies?
Each badge is designed for approximately four (4) hours of engagement per week over the course of seven (7) weeks. However, because each badge is self-paced, the actual length of time to completion per badge is dependent entirely on each individual learner. A person could complete each module within the badge in more or less time, depending on their level of engagement.
Is JWU accredited?
Yes, JWU is regionally accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).

Badge Course Description: Shows leaders how to set expectations, reinforce standards and correct issues in ways that are firm, fair and compassionate.
Leading Multilingual/Multi-Generational Teams (FLCP)
Badge Course Description: Provides strategies for communicating effectively, adapting leadership styles and fostering inclusion across diverse languages and generations.

JWU Online Degree FAQs
How much does my program cost?
All tuition charges for online classes are charged on a per-credit-hour basis. For information about the cost of a specific program, please refer to the Tuition and Fees page. You may also ask your admissions associate for more information about tuition and fees.
Do you offer credit for life or work experience?
Yes. JWU offers “prior learning assessment credit,” allowing you to earn credits for the knowledge or skills you’ve mastered. Credit can be earned through portfolio development or with departmental challenge examinations (credit by examination). JWU also accepts College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) examination credit. Can I apply for financial aid even if I receive tuition reimbursement?
Yes. Complete the FAFSA, and we will use that to determine your eligibility for financial aid. Tuition reimbursement will be taken into consideration. For more information, visit our Financial Aid page.
What is expected of me in a course?
Each course has a syllabus that outlines expectations and requirements. Courses have activities, assignments, and assessments required throughout the course according to a schedule. In the online classroom, participation requirements may include posting a certain number of original messages, responding to a certain number of other posts, or logging in and contributing a certain number of times each week. You can use the following link to tour an online classroom. For graduate or continuing education classes held at the Providence campus, course delivery for most programs is in the form of face-to-face classes meeting once a week in the evening. A few classes are held on Saturdays with Culinary and Baking and Pastry labs meeting on Sunday.
How much time should I dedicate to my studies?
It is important that you stick to the schedule for the course. In the online classroom, the schedule exists to make sure you and your classmates are engaged in the same content and online discussions at the same time, which leads to a quality online learning experience. For undergraduate courses, be prepared to spend at least 6 hours per week on each course. For graduate courses, be prepared to spend at least 12 hours per week on each course.
