On April 7, 2025, Johnson & Wales University College of Professional Studies is officially changing our name to JWU Online.
The new name will provide clarity for adults seeking online education programs to advance or change their careers, and that provide the flexibility to work full-time to support themselves or a family. As JWU Online, the division recognizes and renews our commitment to meeting the same high standards that have built the reputation of Johnson & Wales University. We invite students and graduates to update your education and experience with the new JWU Online name.

As JWU Online, our strategy remains focused on expanding academic excellence while further enhancing the student experience through digital engagement. Founded as a business school in 1914 by two forward-thinking women, Gertrude Johnson and Mary Wales, Johnson & Wales University has for more than a century helped graduates fulfill their personal and professional aspirations. Always striving to deliver exceptional education, the university prides itself on being a pioneer in online education and a premier provider of professionally relevant degree programs. Since 2014, Johnson & Wales University has given thousands of working professionals from around the globe the opportunity to complete undergraduate and graduate degrees in an online format. Renewing our commitment in 2025 to serve professionally focused adult learners, the College of Professional Studies is shifting its name to fully reflect the university’s commitment to online learning.

JWU Online Initiative
The change to JWU Online also acknowledges the exciting and innovative initiatives launched this year, which align with the university’s mission to ensure students are prepared for meaningful careers and leadership roles within their chosen career.
- Introduction of career-focused, 90-91 credit Hospitality and Computer Science bachelor’s degrees. This new option allows students to complete their degree sooner and save on tuition while still receiving the same quality education and hands-on experiences JWU is known for. If you prefer a fuller curriculum, the traditional 120-credit degree option is also available.
- Interdisciplinary online associate and bachelor’s Criminal Justice degree programs to prepare for a wide range of criminal justice related careers. The industry-experienced faculty who have been teaching in the on-campus Criminal Justice bachelor’s program, will deliver these online courses.
- A new fully online Doctor of Business (DBA) Hospitality Leadership concentration degree will begin in Spring 2026. The DBA – Hospitality Leadership degree is designed to address critical issues within the hospitality industry by teaching students advanced concepts in business analysis, executive communication, applied research, and technology.
- A worldwide leader in culinary education, a Professional Culinary Skills Certificate (PCSK) program is now delivered 100% online. Students can access course materials on their own schedule and complete cooking assignments in the comfort of their home, to prepare for careers in food production and other career paths where food production serves as the foundation of success.
JWU Online will continue to focus on identifying and developing new degree programs that have strong market demand, provide for meaningful career progression, and are aligned with the university’s mission and professionally focused values.

JWU Online Student Services
JWU Online will continue to offer accredited career-relevant undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees that position our students and alumni for the workforce of the future. Asynchronous classes with 24/7 access to the learning platform allows students to complete assignments on their own time.
All JWU Online students will have access to a full range of support services, geared specifically toward working adult students. Our support services include admissions assistance, financial aid and student transfer advisors; a dedicated academic advisor from day one through graduation; writing coaches, technical and career services and a tutoring support service available 24/7. In addition, online students have access to the university library virtually and can request a remote session with a librarian for research help.
