What do you like most about teaching online?

I enjoy teaching online because I feel like I am helping individuals that may not be able to attend on-campus classes. By doing this, I am increasing their chances of success that they may not have had had there not been an online program. For me, sharing what I know makes me very happy.

How do you bring the industry to life in class?

I look for stories in the marketplace related to the course subjects we are studying. These stories are in the form of case studies, news stories, videos, etc. I then explain to students how these items relate to our course. It helps add context to the subject matter. I also discuss my past experiences, as I have worked for engineering, finance, nonprofit, insurance, technology and government organizations. This knowledge is something students find beneficial.

Do you have any career advice for prospective students?

Never stop learning and always be willing to be taught. Have a strong understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access), because the majority of organizations use these tools. Lastly, continue adding skills to your repertoire because it increases your attractiveness to employers.
