With the rapid growth of technology showing no signs of slowing down, employers are looking for candidates with a computer science background to fill their open positions now more than ever.

“There’s a real need in America for computer science as a skillset,” said Thomas Calabrese, Ph.D., a professor in the College of Engineering and Design at Johnson & Wales University and an online instructor.

And he’s right.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of those with a specific computer and information technology background is “projected to grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations.” In addition, these computer science careers, from computer programmers to data analysts to network administrators, are projected to add more than 550,000 jobs in the near future—which is why the JWU College of Online Education is excited to launch this new degree in computer science in Fall 2018.

“We’ve re-engineered our technology and engineering programs to introduce computer science,” Calabrese explained. “We want to be able to take students that have the appropriate math and science backgrounds, bring them into the field, and give them the tools and education they need to be successful.”
